Aerospace Symposium

The first-ever Aerospace Symposium was held at ICAO Headquarters in from 18 to 20 March 2015. This landmark event jointly organized by ICAO and the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) gathered aviation and space community experts from around the globe. Hundreds of participants explored a wide range of topics during the event, proposals and viewpoints which will now help State regulators and space travel innovators gain a better understanding of their respective challenges and opportunities in the decades ahead. The symposium was attended by a Delegation from the UAE consisting of Capt. Aysha Al Hameli, UAE Permanent Representative on the Council of ICAO, Mr. Ismaeil Al Blooshi, Assistant Director General Aviation Safety Affairs – GCAA, Ms. Laila Al Muhairi, Assistant Director General Strategic Planning and International Affiars – GCAA, and Mr. Rashed Alkaabi, Alternate Representative of the UAE to ICAO. The symposium had several panels covering two main themes: THEME 1 - Uniting the Community THEME 2 - Ensuring the Safe Launch and Evolution of Aerospace Transport The ICAO/UNOOSA Aerospace Symposium was the first in a planned series of joint meetings of the two UN bodies, aimed at strengthening dialogue between their communities on airspace management, commercial space travel and many other related issues and activities. The next iteration of the Aerospace symposium is planned for 2016 and will be hosted in the UAE.
